CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF RADIO TRAILERS

Codes and Conventions

- A television channel is always mentioned.
- The duration usually varies between 30 and 40 seconds.
- There are always clips from the programme used in the advert.
- The voiceover in the advert is the same one which voiceovers any television advert for the programme.
- The voiceover puts the question that the programme is asking in the advert.
- If the advert is for a documentary then it is the same voiceover that is used in it.
- The scheduling of the programme is mentioned along with the title.
- Little or no sound effects are used unless they are used within the programme.
- Sometimes music beds are used in the background of the advertisement.
- The music is relevant to the documentary and what is being said within the advertisement (which should be relevant to the documentary anyway).
- The broadcasters name is usually mentioned, the title of the production, the channel it is on and the slogan.
- This is also simple.

Because the documentary would be on Channel 4 and not a different channel, such as, BBC or ITV, we would have to air it on a radio station that is not linked with either of these. Such radio stations include 96.7FM Radio City which is Liverpool's 'hit' radio station. This radio station is also available for download listening on Apps stores on Apple and Andriod phones and music devices.
